EDUCATION
Born in Richmond, Virginia, Betsey lives with her husband, John, in Santa Barbara, California. She holds a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in Educational Administration. Her early career included four years teaching junior high and high school English, college event planning, and co-owning a computer marketing company for fourteen years.
WORK HISTORY
After earning her Certified Nursing Assistant’s License from the Visiting Nurses School, Betsey worked in private duty and hospice care. She also served ten years as a bank accounting clerk. In 2004, after completing California’s Activity Leader Course, she became Activities Care Manager for two Alzheimer’s Units. As Weekend Activities Director at a skilled nursing facility, her program received a 5-star rating from State Surveyors. She later served as Activities Director at a Board and Care home before retiring as a California Activity Director and is a proud member of the Southern California Association of Activities Professionals (SCAAP). She has dedicated over a decade to serving seniors through her compassionate leadership.
ACTIVE RETIREMENT
Now retired, Betsey has enjoyed five years of active volunteer service—leading tea-times, sing-a-longs, crafts, hospice visits, and editing books for seniors in long-term care. She also edits books for seniors in long-term care facilities, helping preserve their stories and voices. She and John are members of All Saints By-The-Sea Episcopal Church in Montecito. A born-again Christian, Betsey prays with hospice patients and intercedes for prayer requests. Her heart is with seniors aged 90 to 107, as well as Veterans and their surviving spouses from WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. At 78, Betsey finds deep joy in serving the elderly in her community and neighboring cities.
